Guy Arnoux and his posters that made history.
The illustrator Guy Arnoux became known during the First World War for his patriotic drawings. From 1914 to 1918, he produced numerous images and albums with the central theme of the glory of the French army. His works highlight the commitment of French soldiers, but also, in some cases, the daily lives of their loved ones. For example, in the series entitled "Pochette de la Marraine" (The Sponsor's Folder), he depicts the lives of civilians left behind. In this set of letter paper, he shows, in particular, the soldier's departure on Monday, errands on Tuesday, receiving mail on Thursday, and consulting the "operations map" on Saturday.
The subjects of his illustrations evolve, with history at the center of his work. The light and amusing tone with which he approaches these serious subjects makes him particularly popular. So much so that he participated, in 1916, in the exhibition "War and the Humorists," for which he even created the official poster.
Throughout his career as a graphic designer and poster artist, Guy Arnoux illustrated nearly 80 books, the main themes of which remained focused on war, battles, and French history. He also produced drawings for numerous works, such as Jean des Vallières' *Essays on Theatre*, *Mr. Fierce's Fear*, and *The Battle* by Claude Farrère. Following the First World War, he also worked with the American Field Service and created advertising posters for...Air France and air freight services, of which Oneart offers you faithful reproductions.
