Ernest Lucien Boucher was born in 1889 in Chartres. He began his career as an illustrator as a cartoonist for the satirical journal *Le Rire* and contributed to several issues of *Fantasio*. At the end of the First World War, he contributed to the revaluation of illustrated books, notably creating the drawings for Marcel Seheur's *La Batrachomyomachie* and Pierre Mac Orlan's *Boutiques de la Foire*. Later, he produced numerous lithographs for advertising and cinema.

Lucien Boucher's fame stems from the advertising posters he designed for Air France starting in 1920. Influenced by Surrealism, he created a series of colorful illustrations that are now known worldwide. These images represent continents through the wonders that distinguish them: multicolored birds for...the Antilles and Central America,lush forests, mountain ranges, and skyscrapers for South America,pagodas and glowing cranes for China...
