Animal posters with a story to tell.
For several centuries, natural history books were major sources for accessing knowledge and understanding the world. Botanists and naturalists thus devoted themselves to describing and reproducing the fauna and flora they had the chance to observe during their travels.
While some authors drew their own illustrations, others surrounded themselves with illustrators, as was the case for François Levaillant and Jacques Barraband with the work *Histoire naturelle des perroquets* published in 1801. The 19th century is a major phase for naturalist illustrations: many botanists wished to significantly update knowledge by providing readers with reference works. Charles d'Orbigny in particular undertook a monumental task when he published his *Dictionnaire Universel d'histoire naturelle*, which includes 288 engraved plates, all illustrated by talented artists and engravers. While mammals are featured prominently in these historical works, birds are also faithfully represented, such as...from the smallest insects, to the most colorful butterflies.
Animals from all over the world thus become accessible, in detail and in color, to the delight of contemporaries. Even today, one can admire the infinite precision of the illustrators of the time through animal posters depicting sometimes...parrotsdromedary camels, kangaroos, caimans, exotic birds like the toucan, hippos, but also sumptuous butterflies and majestic cetaceans.
Animal posters in art edition version
At Oneart, we only select images with a story: we take the time to browse museums and libraries in search of authentic iconographic references. Once we have selected our images, we then take the time to digitally restore them so that they regain their splendor. For printing your posters, we choose the finest quality, long-lasting paper: here, it's a 220g cream laid paper that will instantly transport you to the era of fine literature and beautiful handwriting.
The animal posters are available in several standard sizes, making them easy to frame: 30x40cm, 50x70cm and 60x80cm. You will also find posters in triptych format: our collection of cetaceans from the work of Charles Melville Scammon allows you to create a beautiful decorative ensemble with three posters that you simply need to align to depict a humpback whale, a sperm whale or a fin whale.
Please note that our entire production process takes place in France, and is carried out in a responsible manner. In our printing plant in Fontainebleau, we only print according to your orders.
