Botanical board fruit - Dyer
This plate is a reproduction of an illustration by Pierre-Antoine Poiteau , taken from the book " Pomologie française: recueil des plus beaux fruits cultivés en France ," published in 1846. It depicts the American pokeweed , also called American inkberry (Phytolacca americana), a perennial herbaceous plant native to North America.
The fruits, arranged in drooping clusters, are fleshy, black berries that wrinkle when ripe. Historically, they were used to produce a purple dye, although the plant is toxic and not suitable for human consumption. This species is also known for its ornamental appearance and its ability to colonize wooded or disturbed areas.
The illustration captures botanical details with remarkable precision, offering a rich texture and a vintage style reminiscent of 19th-century elegance. True to Poiteau's artistic approach, this refined vintage piece will enrich your interior decor with a touch of retro and timeless style, bringing both sophistication and natural charm.
