Babar and his children ride a cable car in San Francisco. Reproduction of one of the illustrations from the album " Babar in America " published in 1965. The famous character was created by Cécile de Brunhoff when she told stories to her children at night, and later her husband Jean brought the little elephant to life by illustrating the very first album of Babar's adventures for their children. Their son, Laurent, then took over from his father and illustrated the following albums.
