Roland-Garros 1994 magnet by Ernest PIGNON-ERNEST
The official 1994 Roland-Garros poster, created by Ernest Pignon-Ernest, is distinguished by a powerful and original composition centered on an outstretched hand, bathed in light against a deep red background. Refusing any explicit signs of tennis, the French artist chose to express the spirit of the tournament through movement, color, and the universal symbolism of the gesture. This hand, both energetic and elegant, embodies the tension, effort, and passion of clay-court play, while avoiding the anecdotal nature of a face. Through this work, Pignon-Ernest reveals the human and timeless dimension of Roland-Garros, offering a poster that appeals as much to art lovers as it does to tennis enthusiasts.
