The official 2003 Roland-Garros poster, created by American artist Jane Hammond, marks a historic first by entrusting the design to a woman. Hammond highlights the noble material of the clay court by using ochre clay, modeled in relief to capture all the texture and warmth of the Parisian court. On this surface, she brings to life cutout silhouettes of players from yesterday and today, pasted onto light paper fragments. Combining painting, collage, and cutout techniques, the poster, conceived in the artist's Manhattan studio, oscillates between lightness and aridity.
