2017 Roland-Garros Magnet by Vik MUNIZ

The official 2017 Roland-Garros poster, created by Vik Muniz, celebrates the ephemeral magic of tennis through a unique and poetic work of art. The Brazilian artist used crushed mineral pigments, arranged in thin layers on the clay, to depict the shadow of a player serving, frozen on the service line. This composition, initially created as a temporary installation, was photographed and enlarged to become the tournament poster, before being destroyed in the manner of Tibetan mandalas, thereby highlighting the fleeting and precious nature of the sporting moment. Through this process, Vik Muniz offers Roland-Garros a poster that is both figurative and conceptual, paying tribute to the beauty of the movement and the impermanence of the game.
